Magical Reciprocity
Our environment and programs cultivate and inspire, but we are often the ones that are left with wonder. We focus on continually understanding and meeting our Members’ needs and, in return, they teach us about humanity and how to live a better life. We consider it “magical” because something unexpected and transformational is born from the exchange between the L.A. GOAL Members and our wider community of staff, volunteers, and caregivers. When our Members have their needs met and are given the space to explore their passions, interests, and desires, they share back their true essence which connects us to the core of our own humanity. We learn about the power of acceptance and non-judgement, and what it means to go beyond ability or disability to love and honor the being of all people.
When people's needs are met, they thrive. Since 1969, L.A. GOAL has made a measurable impact on our Members’ lives and the community
96% of Members showed improvements in their life, vocational, and communication skills

“Just because we have disabilities doesn’t mean we don’t have abilities in other areas. We had one Member of L.A. GOAL who was excellent in math but maybe they were a little slower at walking. We have one Member who is an amazing artist and they may need help in math. You may have your strengths and weaknesses, but doesn’t everybody?” — Lisie, Member

“L.A. GOAL provides Members with the feeling of community. That they are not alone, that others feel what they feel and that we can all share in those feelings. Loneliness and depression are the greatest challenges for the Members and L.A. GOAL works hard to dispel them with community, with belonging, with knowing that someone wants to know, and cares, how they feel.” — Ron, Parent and Board Member
