Vocational Training and Employment

Our Vocational Training Program, held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, helps Members develop the skills they need to obtain and maintain meaningful employment. Training covers both hard skills, such as answering phones, packing Inside Out Productions products, and making copies, and soft skills, including communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution.

In addition to hands-on job training, we offer Job Readiness classes, where Members learn how to complete job applications, prepare for interviews, resolve workplace challenges, dress and groom appropriately, and practice respectful and professional work habits.

Many of our programs contribute to our Vocational training, including Adult Education, Music Therapy and Counseling, Life Skills, Visual and Performing Arts, and Social opportunities.

To fulfill the Members’ requests for paid, part-time employment, L.A. GOAL operates four employment programs. To become a paid employee at L.A. GOAL, Members take part in apprenticeships and receive at least six months of training before they are hired.

Our Employment programs consist of:

Visual Arts: Artists learn new skills and explore their creativity in a professional art, sewing, and ceramics studio. Their original works of art and reproductions of original art on T-shirts and other products are sold at art exhibits and boutiques throughout the year. Artists are paid on an hourly basis instead of on commission so they know how much money they can rely on each month and budget accordingly. See our Inside Out Productions page for more information.

Custodial Maintenance: Members are trained and hired to provide professional building custodial services, light landscaping, and inventory management of cleaning and building maintenance supplies.

Program Aides: Members learn how to mentor other Members and assist staff in programs, including supporting elderly Members or Members with Dementia.
