Our Programs
People with developmental disabilities want to be fully participating members in their communities. They want to work, live, and love; they would also like opportunities for creative expression and avenues through which they can challenge themselves. Adults with developmental disabilities learn most effectively by "over-learning," and repetitive instruction is often necessary throughout their lives to help them maintain long-term employment and independence. We have found that with support and guidance, they are able to live and work independently and lead happy lives.
Independent Living Skills programs operate seven days per week, 50 weeks per year and have many components. Our members participate in several components at any given time. We have structured the program to help our members attain and maintain the delicate balance of emotional, mental and physical wellbeing, while helping them deal with the mechanics of life. We continuously assess each member to ensure they are, at minimum, maintaining their current level of independence. We provide an open forum where they can express what they feel they need to help them increase their capacity for employment and level of independence.
L.A. GOAL Brochure
Many of our members have already attained their goal of securing paid employment. In 2008, six Members graduated into paid employment; five moved into more independent living situations. Our clinical staff work closely with our members and their employers to resolve any work issues that arise to ensure continuation of employment.
